Knitted Whirlpool Doily Pattern

S-583 : This pattern gives directions to knit, crochet detail, the doily shown. This beautiful piece is vintage 1952 from Coats and Clark's and is worked in Mercerized Crochet Cotton. The doily, an intermediate to advanced project features a center whirlpool or pinwheel motif, spinning into a flowery detail with scallops and finishing in a 'just right' ruffle. The finished doily measures 16 inches in diameter, excluding the ruffle.

Materials:

• J. & P. COATS BIG BALL BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. A.104, Size 30: 3 balls of White; or CLARK'S BIG BALL MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. B.34, Size 30: 3 balls of White.
• 5 Double-pointed Steel Needles No. 1 (2 1/2 mm. size).
• Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 9.
