Description

FILET CROCHETED BUTTERFLY CHAIR SET:  THESE BUTTERFLIES, DONE ENTIRELY IN FILET CROCHET, MAY BE WORKED IN STRING OR COTTON. IN STRING, THEY MAY BE USED FOR A CHAIR BACK SET (THE LARGE ONE AS THE CHAIR BACK, THE SMALLER ONE AS THE ARM RESTS) OR AS A SCARF END. DONE IN A FINER COTTON THEY MAY BE USED FOR SMALLER SCARF ENDS, CORNERS FOR VARIOUS LINENS, AN INSERT IN A PILLOW CASE OR TOWEL OR ON EDGE AND AS AN INSERT IN A PILLOW (WITH A COLOR UNDER THE PILLOW TOP).    NOTE:  THIS PATTERN WAS PUBLISHED USING ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.  

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 5349 in 1935.   The newspaper description:  "Just a bit of string or cotton makes these decorative butterflies. Done entirely in filet crochet, the K and lace stitch set off the design effectively. You can use the large butterfly for a chair back and the smaller one for the arm rests.
