In the 50's this style sweater or top was frequently referred to as an overblouse.  Regardless of the name, this is a quite nice, and popular pattern in the shop.  

Description

Boat Neck Overblouse : This pattern contains instructions to knit the blouse shown. This simple design is quite an attractive piece. The high boat neck bands goes to the edge of the shoulders creating a broad look, It is loose fitting with short sleeves and hip length. The sleeve and bottom band match the neck. The pattern is vintage 1956, having made its' appearance in Modern Needlecraft Magazine.

SIZES: Directions for size 12. Changes or sizes 14, 16, 18 are in parentheses.  (Body Bust Size: 32" (34"-36"-38") = (Blocked Bust Size: 34" (36"-38"-40") .

MATERIALS:   Botany Brand Sport Yarn, 6 (7-7-8) 1-oz. skeins;   Knitting needles No. 3. (Or English size 10.)

GAUGE: 15 sts=2"; 10 rows=1".
