Description

Boxy Suit:   This pattern gives directions to knit, crochet detail, the suit pictured.  Called a boxy suit, the design takes us back to 1953.   The official magazine description:  "High style separates – boxy jacket and matchstick skirt. The jacket is knitted in a honeycomb patter, using brown alone for roll collar and sleeve borders, brown and blue elsewhere"  

Sizes: Directions for size 12. Changes for sizes 14 and 16 are in parentheses.  

Materials:   

  • "Botany" Brand Sport Yarn, 6 (7-8) 2-oz. skeins No. 902 Toffee Brown for skirt. "Botany" Brand Germantown Knitting Worsted, 7 (8-9) 2-oz. skeins No. 295 Chili Brown, main color (MC) ; 5 (6-7) skeins No. 654 Carribean, contrasting color (CC) for jacket.   
  • 24" circular needle No. 3 for skirt; 
  • straight knitting needles No. 5 for jacket. (Or, English sizes, 10 and 8.)  
  • Steel crochet hook No. 1.  
  • Three buttons. 
  • 3/4 yd. elastic.

Gauge: 7 sts=1"; 9 rnds=1" (skirt). 5 sts=1"; 7 rows=l" (jacket).
