Crochet Basket Pattern, Mail Order Design 798

Crocheted Basket:  This pattern contains directions for a crocheted basket worked in either straw material or two strands of cotton. Basket is sugar-starched into shape, it may be used as a centerpiece on a table or buffet.   The finished basket is oblong, measuring 9 x 15 inches - 4 inches tall. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 798. The pattern was included in the Laura Wheeler 1954 Designs catalog.  The newspaper description:  "Yes, you can crochet a basket! Looks like straw - it's really straw yarn or cotton sugar starched into shape. Dramatic centerpiece for table, buffet. Holds flowers fruit".
