"You can work miracles with white string combined with colorful scraps of string and a crochet hook - Alice Brooks will show you how. Do one medallion at a time ... in your spare moments or settle down for a whole evening. Your hook will fly through its easy to follow routine and soon you'll have enough of these 6 inch medallions each with a different color flower center, to join into a gay bedspread, pillow, scarf or dinner cloth".

Description

Crocheted Medallion:  This crocheted medallion can either be made of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. When joined together the medallions form bedspreads, cloths, scarfs and pillows.  Depending upon your material selection, the medallion may be crocheted at 3-1/2 or 6 inches.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 5996 in 1937.

Materials:  Unbleached Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (800 yard) skeins, scraps or one color of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 8 steel crochet hook. For fine lacy medallions use No. 30 white Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 12 steel crochet hook.   Each medallion requires approximately 26 yards of unbleached and 11 yards of the colored cotton or 23 yards of the fine white cotton.
