Crochet Diamond Bolero Pattern No 981

Crocheted Bolero:  This pattern gives directions to crochet the bolero pictured.  This easy pattern, in knitting worsted, features a pleasing diamond motif , short sleeves and above waist length.  An interesting note ... the pattern directions indicates it is sized for teens at 12 (size 20 bust), 14, 16 and 18 Years.   Pattern is not in stated sizes, but years! 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspaper advertisements and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Martha Madison No 981.   It was a popular pattern being released through newspaper 5 times between 1961 and 1973.  

MATERIALS: For sizes 12 and 14 yrs - 8 balls mercerized cotton or wool string which gives a gauge of 10 chain to the inch when No.8 American gauge or No.6 Canadian gauge steel hook is used.  For sizes 16 and 18 yrs, 9 balls crochet and knitting cotton or any thread that will give a gauge of 9 chain to the inch when No. 5 American gauge or No. 9 Canadian gauge steel hook is used.
