Vintage 1937

String’s the thing for spring!  And a simple mesh the thing for gloves! These are crocheted lengthwise in two identical pieces and whipped together in the same color introduced in lines running along the back of the hand to the end of the cuff.

Description

Crocheted Gloves: These crocheted gloves are worked in two sections; a back and a front piece. The crocheting is done in long rows extending from the end of the cuff to the fingertips; the foundation chain forming the side seam. The pieces are crocheted together. The gloves can be made of mercerized crochet and knitting cotton or of light weight yarn. They can be made in 3 sizes – large, medium or small size – all included in the one pattern.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspaper advertisements.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 1440 in 1937.

Material Requirements:  2 (200 yard) balls of unbleached and 1 ball of brown mercerized crochet and knitting cotton or 2 (1 ounce) balls of eggshell and 1 ball of brown French Zephyr yarn and a No. 10 steel crochet hook.
