Fruit Mats : This pattern gives directions for crocheting the hot mats pictured. These are motif designed mats, with three different designs -- an apple, a bundle of grapes and a pineapple. All are crocheted in Knitting and Crochet Cotton. Actual size of each is not stated.

This is a Mail Order Pattern, purchased through newspapers. This pattern was marketed as Needlework Bureau 1459 in 1940.  (One point of interest is entire pattern is in capital letters).  The newspaper description:  "A fine table covered with marks from hot dishes will be a constant eyesore. Why not crochet these attractive hot dish mats designed to look like fruit - A bunch of grapes, an apple and a pineapple".

Materials:

• 1 BALL EACH OF KNITTING AND CROCHET COTTON IN THE FOLLOWING COLORS: DULL ORANGE (PINEAPPLE), MEDIUM GREEN (LEAVES), RED (APPLE), AND LIGHT GREEN (GRAPES). ABOUT 9 YDS OFSAME COTTON IN RUST OR BROWN FOR TRIMMING ON PINEAPPLE
• STEEL CROCHET HOOK, SIZE 8 FOR GRAPES, SIZE 5 FOR APPLE AND PINEAPPLE.
