Crochet Medallion Hat Purse Design 770

Crochet Hat and Purse:  This crocheted hat and purse set can be made either of Knitting Worsted, Straw Material or of two strands of Crochet and Knitting Cotton worked together. Four joined medallions form the calot; the medallions can be arranged to form any head size. Crocheted flowers arranged in two rows at front of calot, complete the hat. The purse is made of single crochet with some joined medallions to form the flap.  

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspaper advertisements and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 770 in 1944.  

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: Either 3 (3-3/4 ounce) skeins of yellow, a few yards of blue Knitting Worsted and a No. 1 steel crochet hook, 5 (100 yard; skeins of yellow, a few yards of blue Straw Material and a No. 0 steel crochet hook or 4 (300 yard) skeins of yellow, a few yards of blue Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 0 steel crochet hook; 1 yard of lining material and 1/2 yard crinoline.   If only the hat is being made 1 (3-3/4 ounce) skein of yellow, a few yards of blue Knitting Worsted and a No. 1 steel crochet hook, 2 (100 yard) skeins of yellow, a few yards of blue Straw Material and a No. 0 steel crochet hook or 2 (300 yard) balls of yellow, a few yards of blue Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 0 steel crochet hook is required.
