Description

Crocheted Pineapple Edgings for Handkerchiefs:  This pattern gives directions to crochet the edgings, each in pineapple stitch, pictured.  These are very narrow edgings specifically designed - 1941 - for handkerchiefs.   These might also be delightful used on lingerie.  "These elaborate edgings are achieved in seven rounds of simple crochet; but, if you prefer narrow dainty edging, tie off at the completion of Round 2, or Round 3".

This is a Mail Order pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.   The pattern was marketed as both Needlework Bureau and Martha Madison 886.  The newspaper description:  "You'll like to crochet these pineapple design edgings, wide or narrow, on your own handkerchiefs or those you might be giving as a gift".

Material:

  • Roll-hem, or hemstitch closely, a narrow hem around 11-inch squares of finest linen, lawn or other soft fine material. Or, buy ready-made hemstitched narrow-hem handkerchiefs at nominal cost.
  • For the edging, use Tatting Cotton or #70 Crochet Cotton and #12 hook.
