Description

Crocheted Mats:  These two crocheted mats done in heavy thread can be made very quickly. The mats can be worked in four strands of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton used together or of a heavy Perle Cotton especially adaptable for this type crochet. The mats come in two sizes – an oval mat is 12 x 14 inches and a round mat 10-1/2 inches in diameter.  

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 5986 in 1937.  

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (500 yard) skeins, or Perle Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (4-1/2 ounce) skeins and a No. 0 steel crochet hook.  The oval mat requires approximately 140 yards of Perle Cotton or 560 yards of string; the round mat 90 yards of Perle Cotton or 360 yards of string.  If Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton is being used work with four strands. If Perle Cotton is being used work with a single strand.
