Description

Crochet Rug Pattern:  This pattern gives directions to crochet an oval or round rug using stockings, rags and carpet warp in two shapes - round and oval.  The round rug will measure 28 inches and the oval rug is 27 x 33 inches.   Of course, you can continue adding rounds to reach a rug the size of your choice.  "The ideal crocheted rug is made from castoff silk hosiery or men's socks, and two shades of carpet warp. These rugs may be used in any room and may be either round or oval, with the color scheme matching that of the room.

This is a Mail Order pattern, purchased through newspapers and catalogs.   This pattern was marketed as Needlework Bureau E-870 in 1951 and Martha Madison 870 in 1961.  The newspaper description:  "Crochet this rug from cast-off silk hosiery or mens socks, and two shades of carpet warp. May be made either round or oval".

Materials:

  • 2 spools contrasting shades of carpet warp
  • 1 steel crochet hook No. 00
