This is a mail order pattern, typically purchased through newspaper advertisements and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 7170.  It was included in the 1945 Alice Brooks Design Catalog

Materials:  4 (150 yard) balls of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton;   No. 10 steel crochet hook.

Design 7170 was a quite popular pattern, being released in newspaper advertisements 7 times between 1944 and 1952.  Although it was not common for a pattern to be released in 2, or perhaps 3, consecutive years, what makes this one different is the advertisements themselves.  Typically just one pattern picture and description was used.   In the case of Design 7170, it was released with 4 different pictures and descriptions.   This pattern was also released under the American Weekly brand (1945 and 1946).  I'm sure it would also have been released under the Laura Wheeler brand.
