Description

Crocheted Square:  This crocheted square can either be made of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. The square can either be worked entirely in one color or the first seven rounds can be worked in a pastel shade and the final round in unbleached. When joined together the squares form bedspreads, cloths,scarfs, pillows and chair sets.   The squares can be crocheted at 4 or 5-1/2 inches.  

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.   The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 357 in 1942. The pattern was featured in the 1944 Alice Brooks Designs Catalog.  

Materials:  Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (500 yard) skeins and a No. 8 steel crochet hook,  or No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 10 steel crochet hook.  (Each square requires approximately 46 yards of heavy cotton or 32 yards of fine cotton)
