Description

Pillbox : This pattern contains directions for crocheting the hat pictured. This vintage 1939 design calls for use of GIMP, a discontinued material -- try substituting a heavy crochet cotton or a lightweight cord. The design is worth the effort ! It is Pillbox styled, with short sides and the typical flat top. Taking the typical pillbox a set further however, is the cutout pattern on the top and the attached snood mesh that hangs to the shoulders. There is also a back headband that holds the hat in place.

Materials:

  • 4 tubes "Raphael Brand" Gimp ( Research indicates DMC Cabelia No 10 as a substitute )
  • 1 coil Cotton Rustproof Wire,
  • 1 coil Milliner's Wire,
  • 3/4 yd. Round Elastic.

STITCH: Use Chain Stitch, Single Crochet, Treble Crochet and Double Treble Crochet throughout.
