Crocheted Pinwheel Mats Pattern, Laura Wheeler Design 2692

Crocheted Mats : The pattern contains directions for making three mats. The mats are worked almost entirely in single crochet in a two color combination. They can either be made of 4 strands of Crochet and Knitting Cotton taken together or they can be made of a single strand of Candlewick. If desired the small mat can be used as a potholder. The large mat measures 15 inches, the medium mat is 10 inches and the small mat is 7 inches in diameter.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern, purchased through newspapers and catalogs. This pattern is Laura wheeler 2962, issued in 1940.  The newspaper description:  "Hot plate mats crocheted in four strands of white and colored string make any table gay. Use the color of the dinner set for hamonious effect. The smallest of the three mats makes for a potholder too".

Materials: White and blue Crochet and Knitting Cotton Crochet hook. The large mat required approximately 172 yards of mat requires approximately 104 yards of white and 200 yards of blue; the small mat requires approximately 40 yards of white and 94 yards of blue.
