Description

Crocheted Marketing Bag:  This pattern gives directions to crochet the bag pictured.   This is a sturdy bag that is very Beginner Easy, worked in rug yarn.  The actual size is not stated.

This is a Mail Order pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Anne Cabot 5298 in 1942.   The complete pattern description - reminiscent of the WWII era -

Paper bag shortages won't bother the housewife who is provided with this specially designed marketing bag! It's strong and sturdy and inexpensive. The three balls of cotton rug yarn should not cost you more than twenty-five cents apiece.
You can use it for more than just doing the (marketing at the self-service stores - it's grand for a young mother to carry the baby's things when visiting - the school girls in the family will want a dark blue or dark green bag to carry gym uniforms, Girl Scout extras or school sewing.
If you want a "perfectly enormous" knitting bag, make a plain lining and attach it inside the crocheted bag. This would also be suitable for a super-sized mending bag!
Let the girls of the family make marketing (or mending bags) as gifts - they're remarkably easy to crochet - and the girls might like to start their crocheting by doing a piece that is not too difficult:
Use dark green, bright yellow, brown, white, navy, wine, scarlet or black rug yarn. The bag is serviceable - no matter what color you use.

Materials:
3 balls of any color cotton Rug Yarn; NEEDLE: Rug and Afghan Hook, size G.
