You've a thrilling  pattern in this lacy design, one that the veriest beginner can set hook to with assurance of success.  Companion squares, crocheted individually, are joined, giving a continuous ribbon-striped effect throughout. The square is 10 inchesin string, 6-1/2: inches in finer cotton which does for scarfs and smaller accessories.

Description

Filet Crocheted Squares: These two filet designs—the one a butterfly and the other a rose – are to be worked in string or in fine crochet cotton. They may be combined to form bedspreads, cloths, scarfs, pillows and buffet sets; each design may be used alone if desired. The pattern includes a chart of each square also directions describing how the charts are to be used.   Work the squares at 6-1/2 or 10 inches. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspaper advertisements and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 5860 in 1937.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS; Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (500 yard) skeins and a No. 7 steel crochet hook or No. 50 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 12 steel crochet hook. Each square requires approximately 150 yards of heavy cotton or 92 yards of fine cotton.
