Description

Filet Crochet Companion Squares:   These two filet squares are to be worked of mercerized crochet and knitting cotton or of fine crochet cotton. They may be combined to form bedspread, tea cloths, scarfs, pillows and buffet sets; each design may be used alone if desired. The pattern includes a chart of each square also directions describing how the charts are to be used. Create the large squares at 11-1/2 or 7-1/2 inches or the small squares at 8-1/2 or 5-1/2 inches.  The pattern includes 3/4 page charts and written directions.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 1382 in 1937.  The newspaper description:  "Gloriously simple to do, yet striking in its beauty. This cloth of companion filet squares is all done in string which costs so little even the strictest budget can take it! You can own such a luxurious bedspread, cloth or scarf by crocheting one square at a time - then joining them. And for variety - use each square alone - the design them is different".

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mercerized crochet and knitting cotton in (500 yard) skeins and a No. 7 steel crochet hook or No. 50 Mercerized crochet cotton and a No. 12 steel crochet hook.
  • Each large square requires approximately 175 yards of heavy cotton or 110 yards of fine cotton; each small square requires approximately 125 yards of heavy cotton or 80 yards of fine cotton.
