Description

Filet Crochet Luncheon Cloth:   This pattern gives directions to filet and crochet the cloth pictured.  When finished, the cloth will measure 42 x 42 inches.   The description write-up :  This pretty tea or luncheon cloth is 42 by 42 inches square and is as crisp and colorful as the first flowers of spring. The wide bands of snowy white, done in big filet mesh, are cleverly put together with brilliant red. Edging around cloth is also done in red,

You can make the banding yellow, dark blue or a medium green if one of these colors is more suitable for your color scheme. I've tried various colors for the banding and find that the red seems to produce the loveliest effect!  Tea cloth can be used on a bridge table, small tea table, dinette or breakfast table. It will also be handsome and appropriate to use on an out-of-door garden or porch table for luncheon or afternoon tea.  It's a grand item for a hope chest and would also make a splendid engagement or wedding present.

This is a Mail Order pattern, purchased through newspapers and catalogs. The pattern was included in the Anne Cabot 1949 Needlework Album.  The newspaper description:  "This Jiffy Crochet, or Mile a Minute, cloth is fun to make and will add a new look to your table.  Separate wide bands of sparkling white filet mesh with colored flowers and finish off with an edging of the same color".

MATERIALS: 8 large balls white mercerized crochet cotton #5, 2 large red knit and crochet cotton; NEEDLE: #5 steel crochet hook
