Filet Crochet Rose Doily, 8 Point Star Design 2978

Filet Crochet Doilies: This pattern gives directions to create the doilies pictured. The official write-up: "These doilies are 8-point stars crocheted to glitter in the gossamer lovliness of white or ivory string, against the dark polished sheen of your table. They are filet crocheted back and forth -- they have so many uses". Instructions and charts are included for three sizes. The large doily is 16 1/2", the medium is 12" and the small is 12" in diameter.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 2978.  The newspaper description:  "You'll receive many compliments on your handiwork if you make these filet crochet doilies. They'll look lovely on luncheon table or buffet. One alone would be an ideal bazaar donation."

Materials:   Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (500 yard) skeins and a NO. 7 steel crochet hook or NO. 50 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 14 steel crochet hook;   Each large doily requires approximately 650 yards of heavy cotton or 400 yards of fine cotton.  Each medium sized doily requires approximately 375 yards of heavy cotton or 250 yards of fine cotton.  Each small doily requires approximately 135 yards of heavy cotton or 100 yards of fine cotton.
