Description

Filet Crocheted Rug and Alphabet Pattern:  This crocheted rug is worked in rags, rug yarn or heavy candlewick. Unbleached and one color or two harmonizing colors are used. A matching initials string is given is given for towels.   The completed rug measures 25 x 37 inches, the initials for the towels are 2-1/2 x 4 inches.  

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 1653 in 1938.  The newspaper description:  "Here's the solution to your bath mat problems ... crochet them yourself to match your own color scheme. The pattern calls for two tone effect. Add that personal touch with the initial. It may be used on bath towels as well".

Materials:  10 skeins (60 yards to the skein) each of unbleached and green heavy weight candlewick or jumbo cotton (this is a heavy cotton used in tufting candlewick bedspreads)) and G steel crochet hook.
