The pattern, crocheted in a Lightweight 4 ply yarn, is misses size small at 30-32-34 and medium 36-38-40 and Womens size large at 42-44-46.

This is a Mail Order Pattern, purchased through newspapers and catalogs. This pattern was marketed as Martha Madison 1140 - Ladies Buttoned Vest.  "This crocheted vest, done up in one piece, works up very quickly.  The stitch is a very pretty one".  

Materials:  New Lightweight 4-ply Yarn. It is a worsted-type yarn and comes in wool or orlon with a #1 steel crochet hook, and work evenly so 5 crocheted units will be 3-inches (either way) in the completed fabric.

For Small Size (to fit Bust 30-32-34): about 9-ounces of light color, and about 1 1/4 ounces of dark color for contrasting trim will be needed.  For Medium Size (to fit Bust 36-36-40): about 12-ounces of light color, and about 1 1/2 ounces of dark color yarn will be required.  For Large Size (to fit Bust 42-44-46): about 15-ounces of light color yarn, and 2—ounces of dark for edging. Some shank-style buttons; a piece of tape for reinforcement when sewing them on; a bit of buttonhole-twist for reinforcing the buttonholes (chosen spaces on right-front after garment is completed -- the buttons should be of a size to fit them).
