Laura Wheeler 1837, Round Crochet Cloth Pattern

Jiffy Crochet Cloth: This table cloth can either be made of two strands of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton worked together, or of a single strand of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. The weight of the cotton governs the size of the cloth. Directions are given telling where to end off to make 4 sizes in each material. The cloth features a large poinsettia central motif and a delightful scalloped edge.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and magazines. This pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 1837 in 1938.  The newspaper description:  "Enrich your table with this lovely cloth. A large hook, two strands of string make this 68 inch cloth grow quickly".

• HEAVY CLOTHS APPROXIMATELY 68 INCHES, 50 INCHES, 46 INCHES AND 40 INCHES IN DIAMETER, MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: A 68 inch cloth requires 6 (500 yard) skeins, a 50 inch cloth requires 4 skeins and the 46 inch and the 40 inch cloth each require 3 skeins of Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 1 steel crochet hook. For these cloths use two strands of cotton worked together, this will make a very heavy thread.
• MEDIUM WEIGHT CLOTHS APPROXIMATELY 40 INCHES, 32 INCHES, 27 INCHES AND 24 INCHES IN DIAMETER MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: A 40 inch cloth requires 2 (500 yard) skeins, a 32 inch cloth requires 2 skeins, a 27 inch and a 24 inch cloth each require 1 skein of Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 7 steel crochet hook.
• FINE DOILIES APPROXIMATELY 25 INCHES, 22 INCHES, 16 INCHES AND 14 INCHES IN DIAMETER MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: A 25 inch doily requires 4 (150 yard) balls, a 22 inch doily requires 4 balls, a 16 inch doily requires 3 balls and a 14 inch doily requires 3 balls of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 12 steel crochet hook.
