Description

Jiffy Knit Blouse:  This pattern contains directions to knit the top pictured.  The blouse is worked in one color with large needles and a very heavy cotton or wool. It is knitted all in one piece, with only two seams--the side seams. The bands around the neck, the sleeve bands (these are attached extra) and the belt are worked in a stitch that contrasts with the large mesh of the blouse. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspaper.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler Design in 1935.  The official newspaper description:  "Large Needle - heavy yarn - a straight away job of knitting! Don't your fingers just itch to get at the fun of making this smart blouse? Made in one piece, it has only two side seams and no trimming except for a simple narrow banding. Yet, the blouse has a supple, swanky air that you'll find marvelously flattering".

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 skeins (60 yards to the skein) of old blue heavy weight candlewick (a heavy cotton thread used in making tufted candlewick bedspreads) or 8 balls (1 ounce to the ball) of 8-fold Germantown yarn 
  • A pair of No. 10 bone knitting needles
