Description

Crochet Lincoln Doily:  This pattern contains directions for making a fine lace doily 23 inches in diameter. The doily is made of No. 100 Cotton. It is reported to be an original replica of the Lincoln Memorial doily; the original in a Chicago museum.

This is a Mail Order Pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Anne Cabot 5307.  The newspaper description:  "Today our thoughts turn naturally to our soldier dead, our heroes of past wars, and to those engaged in defending our country now - we think of all the presidents who have labored to make our country great and free. I have selected the Lincoln doily for the needlework column on this memorial day - the doily which adorned the back of his favorite rocking chair in his Springfield home".   The pattern was included in the Anne Cabot 1942 Needlework Album, as well as included in a blog post in Bits of History.

Materials:   5 (200 yard) balls of No. 100 Mercerized Crochet Cotton;   No. 14 steel crochet hook.
