Mans Crochet Slipover Pattern in Afghan Stitch

Crocheted Slipover : This pattern contains directions to crochet the slip-over shown. This design, vintage 1950 from Modern Needlecraft, gives us a crocheted garment for men ... something there just is not enough of! This one, a sleeveless sweater with a squared neckline, is worked in a plain afghan stitch and features three pockets; two at the lower front sides and one just above the left chest (perhaps for those smoking days). The pattern is mans size 38, with changes for 40 and 42 in parentheses.

• 5 2-oz. pull skeins "Botanized" 4-ply Sock and Sweater Yarn Main Color (MC) for Size 38; 6 2-oz. skeins "Botanized" 4 ply Sock and Sweater Yarn (MC) for Sizes 40 and 42; few yds. yarn in Contrasting Color (CC) for all sizes; Suggested colors, MC—No. 2724 (Teal) ; CC—Red;
• Bone Afghan Hook No. 4 (F),
• Bone Afghan Hook No. 6 (H),
• Steel Crochet Hook No. 0.
• Gauge: 16 sts = 3"; 13 rows = 3".
