From a 1942 magazine, this design was billed as military marksman gloves.

Description

Marksman Gloves : This pattern contains directions for knitting the pair of gloves pictured. These gloves, vintage 1942, are referred to as 'Marksman Gloves". I would assume this would lead to hunting gloves in that they are fingerless, giving the hunter extra control and the ribbed cuffs are much longer, adding warmth with the extra hand and arm movements. Size is not stated.

Materials:  3 oz. 3-ply knitting worsted;   1 set #10 double-pointed needles.   Gauge: 7 stitches to inch, 9 rows to inch.
