Description

MARIE ANTOINETTE SQUARE:  This crocheted square can be made either of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. When joined together the squares form bedspreads, cloths, scarfs, pillows, chair sets and other household articles.  The squares may be crocheted at 3-1/2 or 5-1/2 inches.

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 6438 in 1939.   The newspaper description:  "Marie Antoinette, an appropriate name for this square, that suggests all the richness of those royal days. It ends itself to many lovely articles".

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (500 yard) skeins and a No. 8 steel crochet hook, or No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 12 steel crochet hook.  Each square requires approximately 50 yards of heavy cotton, or 25 yards of fine cotton.
