Oval Crochet Runner Scarf Pattern, Alice Brooks 6740

Crocheted Scarfs:  The pattern contains directions for making a short and a long scarf. The scarfs can be made either of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 20 white Mercerized Crochet Cotton. The choice of cotton governs the size and texture.  Scarfs in 4 sizes depending upon fine or heavy cotton. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 6740 in 1940.  The newspaper description: "These scarfs, crocheted in string, can be made in various sizes, giving you the opportunity for making a set for matching pieces of furniture". 

SCARF MADE OF HEAVY COTTON:  Long scarf (18 x 60 inches) requires 2 (700 yard) skeins of unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton.  Short scarf (18 x 36 inches) requires 1 (700 yard) skein of unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton.

SCARF MADE OF FINE COTTON:  Long scarf (15 x 45 inches) requires 7 (125 yard) balls of No. 20 white Mercerized Crochet Cotton; Short scarf (15 x inches) requires 5 (125 yard) balls of No. 20 white Mercerized Crochet Cotton.
