Description

Crocheted Doily and Edging: This pattern contains directions for making a round and an oval pineapple doily and a matching edging with a square corner. All the articles can be made either of No 50 or No 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton or of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton, the choice of the cotton governs the size and texture of the doilies. The Round doily is 7, 8 or 12 inches in diameter. The oval doily is 6-1/2 x 9-1/2, 8 x 11 or 12 x 16 inches. The edging is 2-1/2, 3-1/2 or 5 inches wide.

This is a Mail Order Design Pattern, purchased through newspapers and catalogs. This pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 271 in 1942.  The pattern was featured in the 1944 Alice Brooks Designs Catalog.   

Materials:   No. 50 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 14 steel crochet hook;   or No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 12 steel crochet hook;   or unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton and a No. 8 steel crochet hook.  (The round doily requires approximately 64 yards of No. 50 Cotton or 73 yards of No. 30 cotton or 110 yards of heavy cotton. The oval doily requires approximately 113 yards of No. 50 Cotton or 121 yards of No. 30 Cotton or 182 yards of heavy cotton)
