Description

Filet Crocheted Scarf and Mats:  This pattern contains directions for making filet. crochet scarfs and mats. The scarf can be made in various sizes. Either No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton or Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton can be used; the choice of the cotton governs texture of scarf or mat. Included in the pattern are charts also directions describing how the charts are to be used.    Crochet the small scarfs at 14 x 24 or 18 x 30 inches.  Crochet the medium scarfs at 14 x 30 or 18 x 37 inches.  Crochet the large scarfs at 14 or 18 inches x any desired length.  The mats are 12 x 14 or 15 x 18 inches. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspaper advertisements and catalogs.  The pattern was marketed as Laura Wheeler 548 in 1946.  

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton and a No. 10 steel crochet hook or Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (700 yard) skeins and a No. 8 steel crochet hook.  The small scarf requires approximately 800 yards of No. 30 cotton or 825 yards of heavy cotton. Approximately 125 yards of No. 30 Cotton will be required for each additional 4 inches on fine scarf or approximately 175 yards of heavy cotton will be required for each additional 5 inches on heavy scarf.
