Description

Crocheted Square:  This crocheted square is to be made either of Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or of No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton. When joined together the squares form bedspreads, cloths, scarfs, pillows, buffet sets and other household articles.  The square may be crocheted at 5-1/2 or 7 inches. 

This is a Mail Order Design pattern purchased through newspapers.  The pattern was marketed as Alice Brooks 6714 in 1940.  The newspaper description:  "Southern Beauty - one of those squares that is so easy to crochet, yet makes such a choice pattern when joined. Use it for a spread and let it transform your bedroom.

MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unbleached Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton in (500 yard) skeins and a No. 8 steel crochet hook or No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton in (150 yard) balls and a No. 10 steel crochet hook.  (Each square requires approximately 75 yards of heavy cotton or 57 yards of fine cotton).
